Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your oven is at the right temperature when you're ready to bake the meatloaf.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Use a spatula or your hands to mix everything together. Make sure the ingredients are evenly distributed, but avoid overmixing, as this can result in a dense meatloaf.

Step 3: Shape the Meatloaf
Transfer the mixed meatloaf mixture into a greased loaf pan. Use your hands to shape it into a loaf shape, pressing down gently to ensure it's compact.

Step 4: Add Topping
Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf. This adds flavor and helps keep the meatloaf moist as it bakes.

Step 5: Bake the Meatloaf
Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven. Bake the meatloaf for approximately 1 hour or until it's cooked through and the top is nicely browned. You can check for doneness by inserting a meat thermometer into the center of the loaf – it should read 160°F (71°C) when the meatloaf is fully cooked.

Step 6: Rest and Serve
Once the meatloaf is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the juices to redistribute, making for juicier slices. Serve the meatloaf with your favorite side dishes, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, or a salad.

Enjoy your homemade meatloaf!
