Chicken dumpling soup is a comforting and delicious dish! Here's a simple chicken dumpling soup recipe to make it:


For the soup:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

For the dumplings:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions:Prepare the soup:

  • Take the olive oil in a large pot and heat it over medium heat/flame. Add diced onion, sliced carrots, and celery. When the vegetables start to soften, sauté them for about five minutes. After adding the chopped garlic, cook for another minute.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and add shredded or diced cooked chicken to the pot. Season with salt, pepper, bay leaf, thyme, parsley, and oregano. Bring the soup to a simmer. Let it cool down for about 20 minutes.

Make the dumplings:

  • While the soup is simmering, prepare the dumplings. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add the milk and melted butter until it is all mixed up.Be careful not to overmix.
  • Once the soup has simmered, drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the simmering soup. Cover the pot and cook the dumplings for about 10-15 minutes that will make dumplings puff up and become light and fluffy.


Once the dumplings are cooked through, remove the bay leaf from the soup. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Ladle the chicken dumpling soup into bowls and serve hot.
